Tour De Fountains

Blaze just celebrated her 11th birthday a few days ago, so I decided to take her on an urban hike downtown today. She LOVED it. The nice thing about downtown, besides all of the fountains, is the lack of bad dogs. All of the dogs downtown are very well behaved and ignore other dogs. It is an ideal place to take Blaze,

We started our downtown trek on the Burnside bridge. The "Made in Oregon" sign once was the White Stag sign. There is a big controversy right now because there is a proposal to change the sign to read "University of Oregon", but that has made a lot of Portlander's a bit emotional. It was hard when it was changed from White Stag to Made in Oregon, but U of O? I can't see it happening. It is a piece of Portland. I think Blaze looks stunning below it.

Blaze and Elvis. Elvis has been around for YEARS. I remember when I was a teenager, he was outside the 24hr Church of Elvis playing songs. Although the 24hr Church of Elvis is gone, it's legend remains, as does this guy. I paid him a buck to allow Blaze to pose with him;)

Ahh, Blaze's favorite fountain. The kids, the women, the power of the fountain, they all create water droplets, Blaze's favorite thing in the whole universe.

Blaze is just so charming, she can get anyone to make water droplets for her. So nice of this lady to make Blaze happy.

Another water break. This is a fountain made famous by Gus Van Sant.

Diving for leaves in another fountain. She did not want to come out of this one.

Of course no trip to Saturday Market is complete without entering the food court. Blaze got some birthday ice cream.

I love Portland. I could not live any any other city. I am always reminded of Beverly Cleary's book "Fifteen" when I am downtown. The water fountains, the drinking fountains. Everyone is so friendly and it really is such a small city, or really, a big town. It is America's best kept secret. Blaze thinks Portland rocks too.

Happy Birthday Blaze. Oh Oreo would have loved to play with you in the fountains and I'm sad you didn't stop at Saturday Mkt to see Pete. He is right across from the food court.
Looks like you both had a wonderful day.

I forgot that Pete has a booth at the market. I was down there and probably past him, eager to get to the next fountain;)

Haaa, Blaze and Oreo playing "together", ha, that is a funny thought;)

What a fabulous birthday for Blaze! Max is jealous, but I've explained to him that the biting small children at fountains wouldn't be cool in any city. ;-)

Ha, no biting of the children. I always think that the children are going to be afraid of the dogs. The thing is, is that I think every home in POrtland must have a dog or two. All the kids want to do is play with Blaze. It is very cute.

Caption for Blaze and Elvis photo 1:
"I am amazing, who is this guy behind me?"
Caption for Blaze and Elvis photo 2:
"Dude, I know you are Elvis, but these people are here to see ME"

I love how Blaze cleans out the fountains of debris, cleans the sidewalks of ice cream, gets people to play with her in the fountain. Who knew she had such community spirit?

I love Portland...

Haaa, I never would have thought that Blaze had community spirit.

I know we will see you back this way again. You love Oregon way too much spend you time up in Washington.

Yeah. I have always said that I could either live in the country or in the city, suburbia would be just to hard on me.

Happy Birthday Blaze!

Cool Mommy and GREAT pix! I adore the one with the leaf in her mouth and how she got others to play with her. Kali is jealous - she didn't have such a fun 11th b'day.

Makes me want to move to Portland :-)

Portland is my town, I could not imagine being anywhere else. I like the weirdness, the music, the art, the people.

It does rain a lot here, and gets actually cold here in winter;) We do not have the crazy wildfires here that you have though. Wildfires are found in the mountains though, which we also have.
